exclusion period

exclude until the day after antifungal treatment has commenced

symptoms

  • circular, red, scaly patches on the skin
  • patches may be itchy
  • ring-shaped rash with a clear centre
  • may affect scalp (causing hair loss patches), body, feet, or groin

when can your child return to childcare?

the child can return the day after starting antifungal treatment. the affected area should be covered where possible.

do siblings or contacts need to stay home?

contacts are not excluded

treatment notes for parents

antifungal cream from the pharmacy (e.g. clotrimazole) is usually sufficient for skin ringworm. scalp ringworm may need oral antifungal medication from a GP. do not share combs, hats, or towels.
