important notes

  • QLD launched universal free kindy from January 2024 — a significant expansion from the previous income-tested subsidy
  • eligible long-day-care services also deliver free kindy as part of their program — the non-kindy hours still attract fees (offset by CCS)
  • over 90% of Queensland children attend kindy in the year before school
  • the program is delivered through accredited kindergarten teachers
